Olympus XZ-1

good evening,i have recently bought the much anticipated Olympus XZ-1. I have sold my Canon G11 not so long time ago. I have tried to do lomo with nikon, but it was too vivid and sharp, i have tried with Canon (G11) but pics are too filmish and sometimes colors are bit too vibrant. Therefore i intended to go with Olympus this time, since it got the amber color to its pics...

the XZ-1 is noticeably smaller and lighter than my previous G11.

lets start with what i like about this camera.

-its light, you wont have any neck pain. G11 sure got neck pain.
-OLED screen, sharp, vibrant save battery. big screen.
-f1.8-2.5, this is awesome.
-bunch of in camera effects, i like the diorama, and pinhole the most.
-easy to grip, almost as good as G11, you feel very secure.
-can record video, and zoom in while recording.
-intuitive controls, but not as intuitive as canon. took me 3 days to get used to it.
-the control ring that is similar to Canon S95.
-can shoot video in any creative modes.
-a lot of accessories, almost as good as LX5 in this terms.

what i dont like...

-focus seems slower than G11
-no tilting screen
-no external ISO button to adjust the ISO
-lens is not as sharp as i expected it to be
-although noise is slightly better than G11, but still im disappointed.
-flash compensation is a struggle and also weird for me
-i do not know what my lens focal length are
-no battery charger, you have to charge it like a handphone.
-28mm is not enough for me at times.
-battery life is about 1 day only, with heavy use. really heavy use.
-zooming seems slow.

thats is all that i could think of right now...

since this is a better camera than the G11, im somewhat satisfied for now. but not until i get my hands on the camera that will replace LX5.

will try to post some pics taken from this XZ-1 later, soon.

My Polaroid Project.

i recently got my hands on a Polaroid Image 2, with 6 packs of Polaroid Spectra. The film was given for free (the guy said it has expired in 2004), the total price was only RM120. (around US30 Dollars).

so the plan was to shoot anything that is and will be evergreen. but, being me, who has never shot or experienced polaroid before, i kinda shoot for memory instead of sumthing evergreen....nonetheless, it was a satisfying experience everytime!

the camera is easy to use, half click to focus using its sonar sensor, full click to capture the image. easy. sounds coming from the camera are disturbingly loud. but i love result.

these are the first few pictures that i took with the polaroid. enjoy...

i already have a few film cameras, and already thinking of getting some LOMO camera. Since im somewhat financially restricted. so, im experimenting with digital LOMOgraphy, with editing in Photoshop. Shot were taken with G11+DIY colour filter in Cenang.

I love films, lomo effects and those film effects very much.

Streets Shooting with G11

Recently bought a Canon G11, and sold my D300.
I love street photography, so i decided to ditch my D300 since its very bulky.
The G11 performs quite well on the streets with some minor focusing issues,
the auto focus tends to hunt, even in broad daylight.

So far, i love all the dials and buttons on the G11, easy to reach, easy to set, and i can change the settings very fast.

Nonetheless, Lx3 and Lx5 wins in terms of image quality.

G11 is a great camera for people like me. So does the Lx3 and Lx5. These beauties performs very well for street shooters.

Colours from the G11 are great. I use Manual WB most of the time.

Those are DIY colour filters used with flash, or to adjust the WB manually. Im Having Fun!

Yashica GSN Electro 35, new toy.

Recently bought a new toy, an old toy. 23 years old, probably more. I have decided to try out this cheap rangefinder just for fun.

i love the yashica, for its vintage looks and easy shooting. pictures came out nice all the time.

Currently am enjoying life in Langkawi. Waking up early in the morning in one of the most beautiful island on the planet, nice clean air, good friendly tourists and locals, no traffic jam, good food, fresh seafoods, etc.

i got a half day work, good pay, i got a nice compact car, i still hv my motorbike. life has never been wonderful. every day feels like a weekend, not when im working though...haha..

love the tranquility here.

5 Stages of Sleep

The Beginnings of Sleep

During the earliest phases of sleep, you are still relatively awake and alert. The brain produces what are known as beta waves, which are small and fast. As the brain begins to relax and slow down, slower waves known as alpha waves are produced. During this time when you are not quite asleep, you may experience strange and extremely vivid sensations known as hypnagogic hallucinations. Common examples of this phenomenon include feeling like you are falling or hearing someone call your name.

Another very common event during this period is known as a myoclonic jerk. If you've ever startled suddenly for seemingly no reason at all, then you have experienced this seemingly odd phenomenon. In reality, these myoclonic jerks are very common.

Stage 1

Stage 1 is the beginning of the sleep cycle, and is a relatively light stage of sleep. Stage 1 can be considered a transition period between wakefulness and sleep. In Stage 1, the brain produces high amplitude theta waves, which are very slow brain waves. This period of sleep lasts only a brief time (around 5-10 minutes), and if you awaken someone in the stage, they might report that they weren't really asleep.

Stage 2

Stage 2 is the second stage of sleep and lasts for approximately 20 minutes. The brain begins to produce bursts of rapid, rhythmic brain wave activity known as sleep spindles. Body temperature starts to decrease and heart rate begins to slow.

Stage 3

Deep, slow brain waves known as delta waves begin to emerge during stage 3 sleep. Stage 3 is a transitional period between light sleep and a very deep sleep.

Stage 4

Stage 4 is sometimes referred to as delta sleep because of the slow brain waves known as delta waves that occur during this time. Stage 4 is a deep sleep that lasts for approximately 30 minutes. Bed-wetting and sleepwalking usually occur at the end of stage 4 sleep.

Stage 5

Most dreaming occurs during the fifth stage of sleep, known as rapid eye movement (REM) sleep. REM sleep is characterized by eye movement, increased respiration rate, increased brain activity. REM sleep is also referred to as paradoxical sleep because while the brain and other body systems become more active muscles become more relaxed. Dreaming occurs due because of increased brain activity, but voluntary muscles become paralyzed.

Sleep does not progress through these stages in sequence, however. Sleep begins in stage 1 and progresses into stages 2, 3, and 4. After stage 4 sleep, stage 3 and then stage 2 sleep are repeated before entering REM sleep. Once REM sleep is over, the body usually returns to stage 2 sleep. Sleep cycles through these stages approximately 4 or 5 times throughout the night.

On average, we enter the REM stage approximately 90 minutes after falling asleep. The first cycle of REM sleep might last only a short amount of time, but each cycle becomes longer, so REM sleep can last up to an hour as sleep progresses.

Im selling my 35-70 2.8 for an ipod touch. or maybe a nokia 5800. arghh...but i totally love this lens. its really hard to find. but, there are already better lenses than this. This lens does not AF with my D40, maybe after i get a better body, then i get a better lens...

now i get this voice telling me not to sell my lens...

should i get an ipod or not....aiya...i never own any ipod...

Love is a feeling. A more specific delineation of that feeling cannot be given so simply & easily.

Love is not desire -- love is a feeling that can be expressed and can include the experience of fulfillment. (Desire is lack of fulfillment.) In love, the thoughts, feelings, actions and opinions of the beloved matter. There is a focus of interest, attention & caring on another person and their words & actions impact our emotions. Loving is a deeply involving process which can entail profound emotional interactions with the beloved.

Love is not closeness in the sense of familiarity because it is possible to love a total stranger -- "love at first sight". Love can cause desire for the greatest possible closeness -- or it can stir such anxiety as to make someone fear closeness and run away. Love can be a barrier to closeness when being honest with the beloved entails too much danger of revealing faults, inadequacies or shameful deeds.

Love is a feeling, not a command. Love cannot be willed into existence. One cannot sincerely make a vow to love. One can, however, commit oneself to be loyal to another person despite momentary feelings. When one feels love for another person repeatedly & strongly over a long period of time there is good reason to believe that those feelings will continue. Vowing to love under such circumstances is not misleading in the sense that the person who vows believes that love has a high probability of continuing. Lovers have a desire to reassure each other and to be reassured. Few people would agree to buy a house or have children with a beloved without a strong expectation that the love is an enduring one.

After a stroll along genting's chilling atmosphere, wani and i stopped at the Kopitiam for a nice warm coffee break..the wind was strong, and it was abit drizzly.

I like the shadows at the back wall, giving a retro mood to the image. Later the pic was converted to monotone to add on the effect.

It was a nice walk!

Taken with D80, and a 5omm 1.8, its a lovely combination.

Got an opportunity to shoot wedding last week, it was my second time actually. Some of the pics turn out to be very emotive, and expressive. Like this two here..

Photographer- Muhammad Masri was also able to join the photography session.

Best part was, we were able to meet the 2 pros there, En. Nazari with the D300+17-55mm 2.8 and En Azlan, the Videographer.

The Heritage: Tg Malim

The only thing that i love about Tg.Malim are the old buildings. This picture was taken during the evening street photography, actually we should have wake up earlier in the morning to do this.
Im going back to Sg Petani this July. Dont think that im going to miss anything in Tg Malim.
Just hoping that the architectural heritage there would be preserved...

This will be a tale of me and my journey through the life of photography.
